Guided motorcycle tour package: Amazing Apulia (Puglia), 9 days

7 full days of motorcycle touring zapping between the coast and delightful inland villages in a unique, multi-faceted journey, including 1 rest day

A motorcycle tour in Puglia, in the deep south of Italy, is a treat for the eyes and the heart. With its 940 km of sandy, rocky coastline and high cliffs, it will fascinate you with its deep blue crystal clear sea.

A tour where scenic coastal roads will be interspersed with continuous forays inland in the footsteps of history, in search of the archaeological parks of the Magna Graecia and the Roman Empire to which are added the fascinating ancient villages and castles left us by the Normans, Swabians and others … to protect this extremity of the Italian peninsula. A concentrate of history, nature and sea where the culture of the land and the sea still reigns supreme, where the old villages, castles and fortresses are nothing more than a side dish to a life of bygone times that has its highest expression in the products of the territory. We’re talking about wine and extra-virgin olive oil obviously, and of sea products that can be found in the generous and genuine cuisine with strong flavors of yesteryear. A motorcycle tour that, although it is complete in its own, comes to its climax with the inclusion of Matera, in Basilicata, and its spectacular “sassi”. A motorcycle tour in the heel of the boot, in the far south of Italy, where the peasant culture, the white villages of the inland, the typical “trulli” and the fishermen’s villages will take us back in time to the days of our parents and grandparents.

Main technical characteristics of this exclusive motorcycle tour

To enjoy this holiday to the fullest, the motorcycle tour of Apulia can be done from March to November, possibly avoiding July and August because of the excessive heat (for those who, like us, use technical clothing) and the summer tourism peak.

The tour and the covered area
Apulia is the extreme tip of the Apennine chain that crosses Italy from north to south. If in the south it is characterized by its coastal roads, in the north with the Gargano Park and Mount Cornacchia it ranges from 0 to 1100 meters above the sea level.

Unesco sites along the way
In Apulia we’ll see 5 UNESCO sites: Castel del Monte, the Trulli, the Sanctuary of St. Michael the Archangel, the Umbria Forest and Castel Fiorentino, to which our motorcycle tour adds the city of Matera in Basilicata, with its Sassi and the Park of the Rock Churches.

Climate and clothing
This tour is scheduled as well in March and in October, with the milder spring and fall temperatures to the definitely hot summer ones. Therefore, it is advisable to pair four-season technical clothing with some sweaters but also to prefer perforated protection gear during the summer. A swimsuit and towel, motorcycle plus “normal” shoes, a cable with padlock to tie helmet and jacket to the motorcycle are the main things you need to be able to this motorcycle holiday to the fullest.

A typical day ride
A typical daily ride is of 150-225 km (90-140 miles). The motorcycle tour starts at 9.00 am and includes a stop every hour with activities, always optional, or just for the pleasure. Each day ends with fuelling and arrival at the hotel around 4.30/5.00 pm.

Motorcycle rental
For this motorcycle holiday, there is a limited availability of motorcycles for hire in Sicily. It is therefore critical to book timely. First come, first served.
