Italy Motorcycle Tour: Grand Tour of the Alps through 5 nations, 16 days

14 days on the go for one of the best motorcycle tours around Europe on the top of the Alps.

A tour along the entire alpine arc with the Route des Grandes Alpes, central Alps and Dolomites that crosses Italy, France, Switzerland, Austria and Slovenia.

A tour for experienced motorcyclists on the most beautiful roads of the Alps and Dolomites. After the first two days on the gentle curves of the Unesco site landscapes of the vineyard-covered hills of the Langhe, Roero and Monforte areas in the Italian Piedmont the motorcycle tour arrives on the Côte d’Azur in the south of France, at the western end of the Alpine arc. From here, our motorbike journey of discovery of the Alps begins with the Route des Grandes Alpes and the Mercantour National Park.

A 16-day adventure along the Alpine arc through France, Italy, Switzerland, Austria and on to Slovenia. It will be a continuous up and down through more than 100 of the most famous and highest passes in Europe, such as Col de la Bonnette, Passo dello Stelvio, Großglocknerstraße, Col du Grand St. Bernard, Passo Sella…Probably the best motorcycle tour in Europe for experienced motorcyclists eager to spend many hours in the saddle among nature, snowy peaks, lakes and the largest glaciers in Europe such as the Aletsch, Rhone, Bernina, Großglockner…

A true motorbike adventure not only because of the challenging and exciting roads but also for the daily mileage covered (between 240 and 330 km) and the hours on the go (from 9.00 AM to 6.00 PM) with an average hard riding time of 6 hours per day. The kilometres are many, the rest day is only one, but on the other hand, this motorbike adventure will fully satisfy the desire to discover the entire Alpine and Dolomite mountain range.

Main technical characteristics of this exclusive motorcycle tour

When
This motorcycle tour, which crosses five countries on top of the Alps and the Dolomites, has been scheduled in July to grant the best combination of climate and road traffic for us motorcyclists.

The tour and the covered area
The tour running on the peaks of the Alps and Dolomites crosses France, Switzerland, Italy, Austria and Slovenia. The tour starts on the milder vineyard hills of the Langhe and Roero and then moves on to the Route des Grandes Alpes in France and continues over the most beautiful passes in the Alps, up to Slovenia. The return ride from Slovenia to Milan, on the other hand, will entirely be in Italy over the most fascinating passes of the Friulian and Trentino Dolomites.

Unesco sites along the way
This motorcycle tour with a strong focus on natural landscapes and beautiful roads not only passes through the Unesco sites of Langhe, Roero and the Dolomites with countless national parks but also stops at the Borromean Islands.

Climate and clothing
The tour takes place in the middle of summer mostly in the high mountains, where the climate changes quickly. Temperatures change frequently during the day and four-season technical clothing is highly recommended. Have a thermal jersey and rainsuit on hand at all times, and comfortable shoes plus a cable with padlock to tie helmet and jacket to the motorcycle when stopping to be able to enjoy and experience this motorcycle holiday to the fullest.

A typical day ride
A typical daily ride is 240-330 km (150-205 miles). The motorcycle tour starts at 9.00 am and includes a stop every hour with activities, always optional, or just for the pleasure. Each day ends with fuelling and arrival at the hotel around 5.00/5.30 pm.

Motorcycle rental
For this motorcycle holiday you can choose here from a large variety of Italian Ducati, Aprilia, Guzzi,  or BMW, Harley Davidson, Kawasaki… models for rent. Our advice, however, is to take a motorbike that is agile and not too heavy for the challenging mountain roads we’ll ride. First come, first served
